Annemarie Jacir

Palestinian filmmaker, screenwriter and poet Annemarie Jacir was born on 17 January 1974 in Bethlehem. She lived in Saudi Arabia until the age of 16, moving between Riyadh and Bethlehem, and received her formal education in the US.

Best known for feature films “When I saw You” and “Salt of the Sea,” Jacir has contributed to introducing Palestinian cinema to the world.

Her cinematic career began in Los Angeles, where she worked as an assistant on various sets, then as an editor and camerawoman, before pursuing her studies at the Columbia University in New York and obtaining a MFA in Filmmaking.

In 2003, she shot her first short film, “Like Twenty Impossibles,” which was the first Palestinian short film to be officially selected to compete at the Cannes International Film Festival. It won more than 15 international awards.

Jacir shot her first feature film, “Salt of the Sea,” in 2008, which won the prestigious FIPRESCI Critic’s Prize and the best film award in many other internationMore
