Cherien Dabis

Award-winning Palestinian-American filmmaker Cherien Dabis received her MFA in film from Columbia University in the United States.

She began her career in television series when she joined the writing staff of the hit series “The L Word,” writing three episodes for its third season.

Her film debut was in 2009 with the feature movie “Amreeka,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the critics prize at the Cannes International Film Festival.

Thanks to the great success that “Amreeka” received, Dabis was named by Variety magazine as one of 2009’s “Ten Directors to Watch.”

Her second feature film, “May in the Summer,” was released in 2013. The film opened the Sundance Film Festival’s US Dramatic Competition section and also premiered at the Venice Film Festival. For the first time, she appeared in this film as an actress alongside Bill Pullman, Alia Shawkat and Hiam Abbas.
