Mohamed Soueid

Born in Beirut in 1959, Lebanese writer and filmmaker Mohammad Sweid has shown a great passion for filmmaking and writing throughout his life.

Despite majoring in Chemistry at the Lebanese University due to the absence of any cinema-related major at the time, Sweid insisted on working in and making a living from the film industry.

Immediately after completing his studies, Sweid began writing film reviews for As-Safir and An-Nahar. He also wrote a collection of books and studies on cinema in Lebanon and the Arab world, such as Postponed Cinema - The Lebanese Civil War and Ya Fouadi - A Chronicle of Beirut’s Late Movie Theatres.

As a means of getting more involved and acquiring experience in filmmaking, Sweid worked as an assistant director on a number of films and documentaries, including “The Explosion”, “The Return of the Hero”, “Une Vie Suspendue” and other films.
