What are the dates of the workshop?

The workshop will take place on September 3/4/5/6 2017, at M.Media premises, Quantum House, Sursock Street, Beirut.

  • September 3rd: 12pm-6pm
  • September 4-5-6: 2pm-6pm

Who is eligible for the workshop?

  • Emerging and established writers and writer/directors from all mediums, including independent narrative features, short films, and who are developing an episodic series (webseries or others).
  • Applicants must have at minimum a completed or a work in progress script, as well as a 2-3 pages overview that includes a brief description of:
    • • The premise, genre, central characters.
    • • A short summary of the story and character arcs.
    • • The submitted script should have universal values. We are looking for compelling character-driven stories that display original voice and distinctive vision.
  • The priority of the program is to identify and support Lebanese writers/directors and help them refine their writing skills.

What is the submission period for the application process?

August 1st till August 16th, 2017

What do I need to include in application form?

  • Contact information
  • Bio or Resume
  • Synopsis (no more than 500 words describing the story, world, and key characters of the script)
  • Treatment (2-3 pages, between 1000-1500 words): we want to know, in simple and clear language, how the characters and relationships will change throughout the story.
  • 5 sample pages of the presented script and an old one if available (in Arabic or English)
  • 5 sample pages of a previous script if available (in Arabic or English)
  • To know you more:
    • • Why are you interested in telling this story?
    • • What specific theme you are exploring?
    • • What genre are you interested in?

Will I be notified if I am selected?

Applicants will receive notification via email about whether or not they have been selected for the workshop.

Is there an application fee to apply for the workshop?

Will America Abroad Media and M Media own my pilot or script?

No. Both organizations will not have an ownership stake in any projects that are submitted, or selected for the workshop.

When will the final selection list of approved participants be made?

We will notify everyone of our final selection of the writers by August 24th, 2017.

David Zucker

David Zucker is a director, writer and producer with a string of worldwide box office hits and classic comedies to his credit. His breakout hit Airplane! broke all conventions and became the surprise hit of 1980, beginning a streak of hilarious movies including Top Secret! Ruthless People, The Naked Guns, BASEketball, and Scary Movies 3, 4 and 5. Zucker currently heads up Sinclair Broadcast Group’s successful comedy website, and with longtime writing partners, Pat Proft and Mike McManus, is busy writing “Naked Gun 444 : Nordberg Did It” for Paramount Pictures.

Corinne Brinkerhoff

Corinne Brinkerhoff is a television writer and producer who began her career on ABC's Emmy-winning Boston Legal in 2005. During her time on The Good Wife, she and the writing/producing team received two Writers' Guild of America nominations and one Emmy nomination. She has also worked on Elementary and Reckless on CBS, as well as Jane the Virgin on the CW. In 2016, she created and executive produced American Gothic, a murder mystery on CBS, and No Tomorrow, an adventure rom-com on the CW.

Tim Clemente

Tim Clemente is a former police officer, FBI Special Agent, and military adviser who draws on his own extraordinary life experiences in his work on hit television series. Clemente is a staff writer for the CBS TV series Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, has written and produced episodes for hit shows The Unit (CBS), Lie To Me (Fox), and NCIS Los Angeles (CBS), and has sold and written television pilots for CBS and USA Network. Tim has been a consultant and technical adviser on dozens of TV shows and feature films, providing leading writers, producers, directors, and actors with realistic, authentic, and entertaining storylines, as well as law enforcement and military tactics and expertise.
